One of the most important 20th century architects of Liberec was Max Kühn (October 8, 1877, Trutnov - June 14, 1944, Liberec) Also a teacher at the School of Liberec. His father was a builder Trutnovský O. Kühn.
To study architecture, he joined the Technical University in Vienna in 1894, which he did in 1898 at the Department of early Christian and medieval architecture with Professor Max von Ferstel, in whose studio he worked briefly with his classmate, a native Viennese Heinrich Fanta.
After graduation he came in 1903 in Liberec (Reichenberg), where he became a professor at the State Industrial School (Staatsgewerbeschule) - and first as an ordinary teacher building department and since 1921 as its head.
During the First World War, he became an artillery officer. After the war he continued teaching at a technical college. Teaching career ended at his own request in 1927 for health reasons.
He died on the 14th June 1944 in Liberec.
